Necessity of redefining Quran general teaching from viewpoint of Holy Quran Organization Head

The radio program “Ofogh” (Horizon) with the theme of “General teaching of Quran” was on the air on November 30, 2013 in the presence of Mahdi Qareh Sheikhloo, the international reciter of the holy Quran and the head of Holy Quran Organization, Rahim Khaki, the international reciter of the holy Quran and Mohammadreza Pour-Moein, the host of the program.

At the beginning of this program, concerning the role of Quranic teaching in developing the culture of the holy Quran, Mahdi Qareh Sheikhloo, the head of Holy Quran Organization stated: Quranic teaching is the infrastructure of all Quranic works in the country and even if, we develop activities on research and religious propagation, we are to make people closer to the holy Quran and Quranic teaching; of course, the point which should be considered here is that after these years, we need to redefine the Quranic teaching in the country, and determine what we mean by Quranic teaching in the country.

Quranic Teaching as a means to teach the religion

The head of Holy Quran Organization continued: while redefining the Quranic teaching, we should conclude what we mean by the Quranic teaching and what we should do in this regard; of course, these issues which we propose as the Quranic teaching should be introduced as prerequisites and we should regard the Quranic teaching as a means to teach the religion.

Supporting traditional and modern methods of teaching Quran

Considering the current trend followed at the moment, we should prevent the incorrect trainings and support the traditional methods and sometimes, we should use the modern methods too; of course, since, the issue of teaching Quran is very important, the Islamic republic system of Iran should create a series of new methods and means in order to fulfill this main goal, he went on to say.

In other part of this program, Mohammadreza Pour Moein pointed to the educational programs implemented by Holy Quran Organization and asked the head of this organization to clarify the obstacles in the way of developing the Quranic teaching. In response to this question, Mahdi Qareh-Sheikhloo noted: in order to develop the Quranic teaching, we need to redefine this subject and transfer the educations which people need and the other point is to create the culture of this work, since, if we offer education, but people don’t request it, the aim won’t be fulfilled.

People’s need to Quranic teaching should be considered

We need to increase the attention and sensitivity of families and youths and in order to fulfill this goal, the essential culture should be created, and we should present what people need; and media too should pay more attention to the issue of Quranic teaching, he reminded.

Reminding that some centers have great sensitivity, but the Quranic illiteracy has not removed from the society yet, Qareh-Sheikhloo said: Quranic organizations should help the Education department and educational centers and the country’s educational institutions too should call for their assistance.

Lack of coordination among country’s Quranic organizations

Regarding the harms facing the Quranic teaching in the country, Rahim Khaki stated: the Quranic institutes and those who have established these institutes do their own works. Many of these institutes don’t have access to the essential standards and good and competent teachers. This movement has been launched in our distant villages too, but we witness much harm in this regard and the lack of coordination among the country’s Quranic organizations is the greatest one and until the issue of Quranic teaching in the country is not considered seriously, we won’t find any way.

If we consider the Quranic activities, we will perceive that many institutes with the minimum facilities have done great works and  a part of official and state institutions have received the most budgets too, but they have done the least works an I think that Islamic Development Organization and Holy Quran Organization have established the bases of the Quranic teaching with the least facilities since the year 1360 ( Iranian calendar year) and its results are still seen in the country and these organizations have made great efforts in this regard, he continued.

Of course, some ministries have received great budget to fulfill the very goal, but they have not presented a considerable report on these activities and the lack of coordination among Quranic institutes and organizations is one of the harms seen in this regard, he reminded.

In response to the question whether the Quranic teaching has been successful in the country or not, Qareh-Sheikhloo said: in order to reach success in the domain of Quranic teaching, the essential coordination should be created among all Quranic organizations and we need a structure to determine the position of the holy Quran and Quranic officials in the country.

Reminding that the responsibility for teaching the holy Quran in the country has been assigned to the Education ministry, he said: considering the fact that Education ministry has not been successful in teaching the holy Quran to students, why the responsibility of general teaching of Quran has been assigned to this ministry; a proper structure should be established in this regard, and the responsibility of ministries and the Quranic commissions should be given to the sections which have the essential competency and a bright record in this regard.

As well as redefining the Quranic teaching in the country, we should redefine the country’s Quranic activities too and determine who should form the Quranic structure of the country and accept the country’s Quranic responsibilities and which Quranic responsibilities should be assigned to organizations and ministries, Qareh-Sheikhloo announced.

Main role of families in teaching Quran across country

In other part of this radio program, Qareh-Sheikhloo pointed to the role of families in offering the Quranic education to children and teaching the holy Quran to their children and teenagers, noting organizations, system and budget is a part of a Quranic work and the people’s sensitivity is of high importance too and if we present the best methods, but demands are not high, we will not achieve the proper result and families should know that they have a main role in this regard and should do their works correctly beside the Quranic officials.
