Interview

We should change mosques into promising centers

Despite their various cultural, social, political, educational, economic and religious functions, unfortunately, mosques are exposed to the danger of being neglected especially in villages, so, people and officials have to find a way to make these bases active again.

Mosques are the house of Allah on the earth, the source of the heavenly blessings and the manifestation of the Divine paradise on the earth; mosques have been always the blazing torch lightening the path of uprising against evils and monarchy in history.

What is concluded from the study of mosques’ role in the history of Islam is its comprehensiveness in all religious, political, cultural, educational, judiciary and military fields.

If we take a look at the history of the Islamic revolutions especially the history of the Islamic revolution of Iran, we will realize that mosques are the main pivot of forming the Islamic revolutions.

Mosques, base of Islam/ we are distant from Islamic level

In an interview with Mehr news agency, director general of South Khorasan Islamic development noted: the special work which is assigned to mosques by the religion of Islam is different from what we witness today.

Stressing that praying, worshipping and training should be developed at mosques, Hojatoleslam Kazem Lotfian specified: today, mosques are not prepared to do works comprehensively in all of these fields.

The main mission of mosques is to teach theism and hold religious rituals and congregational prayers as the greatest symbol of servitude to Allah, he asserted.

Some works should not be done at mosques, but unfortunately, we witness them today, he said.

Developing mosques means that loud sounds should not be made, false and useless conversations should not be held and trading should not be done at mosques, he reiterated.

Today, in our mosques, we are competing on saying how loud is the loudspeakers of our mosques, Hojatoleslam Lotfian announced.

Stating that just azan (Islamic call to prayer) should be loud, he added: azan should be broadcast really loud from the loudspeakers of mosques and the other works should be limited.

Stressing that useless works should not be done at mosques, and the society should determine what works is useless, he said: trading should not be done at mosques and fortunately, it is not done at our mosques.

This official knew mosques as the base of Islam, saying the Islamic revolution has roots in mosques and it is the comprehensive image of the divine teachings on the earth.

If in a mosque, the voice of the Islamic revolution is not heard, it is not called mosque anymore, he mentioned.

Stressing that we don’t have any right to carry out the Islamic punishments in mosques, director general of South Khorasan Islamic development noted: the act which sadden and upset Muslims should not be done in mosques.

Pointing out that mosques should be a place attended by the righteous people, Hojatoleslam Lotfian added: we should consider whether our mosques is a place to gather the righteous people or not.

Mosques, centers of Islamic cultures/ mosques should be turned into promising centers

Stressing that mosques should be the main center of Islamic culture, he added: unfortunately, our mosques have turned into a place for grief whereas Islam says that mosques are a place for Muslims’ happiness.

Pointing out that when a Muslim attends a mosque, his/her grief should be forgotten, this official continued: our mosques should be a place for humans’ spiritual happiness and remove their grief.

Stressing that mosques should be turned into the promising centers, he said: mosques is a place for seeking closeness to Allah and establishing friendly relationship among believers.

Mosques should be a place for revival of the divine traditions, and if a tradition is ignored, it should be revived in mosques, Hojatoleslam Lotfian noted.

Dignity of mosques is not observed

The trustee board of mosques and discord among members, congregational prayers leaders and the inappropriate atmosphere created in mosques are some of the factors in making mosques be less developed, director general of South Khorasan Islamic development added.

Noting that a number of our mosques suffer from some shortcomings, he announced: the inappropriate atmosphere is one of the faults felt in mosques.

Stressing that the necessity of building more mosques is not felt, he added: a mosque with high quality and sincerity is more effective.

Stating that the dignity of mosques is not observed in the current system, he added: for example, when cultural and art centers are considered in mosques, all not just a few number mosques should enjoy such an advantage.

People should play leading role in mosques/ villages’ mosques are poor

Stressing that people should play the leading role in mosques, Hojatoleslam Lotfian noted: today, we witness that people who had motivation for developing mosques have lost their motivation.

Pointing out that unfortunately, today, we witness that the mosques’ affairs in cities are considered more than in villages, director general of South Khorasan Islamic development added: mosques in villages don’t have any custodians and are really poor.

Noting that we should not be proud of having seven mosques in a village, he specified: unfortunately, today, we have villages in which more than one mosque or even seven mosques have been built.

Stating that at the moment, two thousand mosques exist in South Khorasan province, Hojatoleslam Lotfian added: the quality not quantity of mosques should be considered.

Noting that today, we witness the difference between the structural and cultural atmosphere in mosques, he added: the balance should be created between the structural and cultural system and the cultural concern should be felt by officials of mosques.

Pointing out that the congregational prayers leaders of mosques should be independent, he added: the congregational prayers leaders should not be dependent on the government; the government should intellectually feed mosques and provide them with essential soft wares.

Pointing out that the government’s interference in mosques’ affairs has not been effective in many countries, he specified: people should play the leading role in mosques.

Touching on the existence of 300 preachers across the province, this cultural official of South Khorasan said: monthly, 300 million rials are allocated to the propagation system by this organization.

According to him, South Khorasan province seriously suffers from the lack of clergies to propagate the religious issues.

Mosques, source of many social and political movements

The official of South Khorasan Islamic development department knew mosques as the source of many social and political movements in history.

Stating that in the religion of Islam, mosques are the source of many social upheavals, Hojatoleslam Sadeqi Khah added: by constructing the first mosque, the great Prophet of Islam (S) showed Muslims and the world that Islam is a social religion and mosques are a social place and the source of many social, political, economic and religious changes and movements in history.

Noting that mosques make men get closer together, he added: mosques are a place for enlightening people and in history, what has led to unity and opposition to hegemony is mosques.

Stating that enemies try to isolate religious people, the official of South Khorasan Islamic development department added: mosques present the best method of opposing such enemies’ plot, since unlike churches, mosques are counted as the main factor in activating the Islamic society and the world of Islam.

Two thousand mosques exist in South Khorasan/ congregational prayers are held just in 550 mosques

Stating that in South Khorasan, about two thousand mosques cooperate with Islamic Development Organization, Hojatoleslam Sadeqi Khah added: most of the mosques across the province are active and people make use of them.

One hundred mosques are not capable of holding the congregational prayers because of being ruined, he announced.

Pointing out that many of the province’s mosques exist in the villages with a small population, he added: in these areas, clergies can not attend permanently, and hold congregational prayers.

Stressing that clergies are sent to all mosques which require congregational prayers leaders, the official of South Khorasan Islamic development continued: in order to hold congregational prayers, the resident and Hejrat-plan clergies are employed.

Noting that congregational prayers are held in 550 mosques across the province, he added: in 391 mosques, Morning Prayer is held with the pious and religious worshippers in attendance.

Holding congregational prayers, Quranic courses, reading Tavasol and Komeyl praying, and implementing religious ceremonies are counted as the main programs implemented in mosques across South Khorasan province during the year, he went on to say.

Concurrent with the International Day of Mosques, some programs will be implemented in mosques and all clergies will run speeches on the occasion of the International Day of Mosques and role of mosques in the social and individual training, the official of South Khorasan Islamic development department reminded.

Mosques are the main base of Islam, spirituality and ethics, and enjoy a great gathering of believers and religious people and are of high importance in the world of Islam.

In addition to its religious and educational functions, this great stronghold of Muslims is counted as a place for people especially youths to attend; therefore, we should make use of this capacity to attract youths by presenting appropriate programs.

Today, unfortunately, our mosques are not active and developed and there isn’t a culturally comprehensive management and cultural or political- social works are done rarely in mosques and special attention is not paid to families especially youths and teenagers and totally, the pivotal role of mosques has been ignored and the activities which are expected to be done in mosques have been forgotten.
